I have spent most of my working years as an Industrial Designer, in Auckland, New Zealand. There have also been periods as a manufacturer and licensor of my designs. Much of what I specialised in, involved inventing mechanisms and simplifying production.
The magic of a photographic print developing was shown to me by my older brother when I was 11 years old. This initiated my interest in photography. Two books, ‘The Family of Man’ and Henri Cartier-Bresson’s ‘The Decisive Moment’ also had a profound effect on me.
The search for excellence requires love and care. To secure images (or design innovative products) that are distinctive, simple, and meaningful can be elusive, – yet especially rewarding when elegance is born.
This exciting digital age, has given me the opportunity to undertake the complete photographic process, - image capture, developing, printing, and international publishing. As an initial project I have documented and published an award winning book, IMAGES Cornwall Park One Tree Hill. Currently I am immersed in documenting a maritime subject, The Hauraki Gulf, – with all photographs made from a boat.
